About
A bit of background
In 2002, two neighborhoods, the Jefferson Area Neighbors and the Westside Neighborhood Quality Project, merged forces and interests to form the JWN. At its July 2022 neighborhood picnic, the JWN celebrated its 20th anniversary, “Stronger Together.” That event served as a catalyst for exploring the JWN’s history and identifying the neighborhood’s unique characteristics.
Learning About History and Our Neighborhood
Here's what we've been working on:
recruiting neighbors to participate in the project.
gathering all existing data on the history of structures in the JWN, including data contained in the Oregon Historic Sites Database (part of the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office).
updating old data, checking for historical integrity of each property, and photographing properties.
compiling individual properties into a database.
identifying changes in structures from previous survey (checking for exterior integrity).
presenting the results of the data gathering in an interactive map.
conducting library research.
informing the JWN general membership and other stakeholders in oral presentations and written articles about our progress findings.
fundraising.
